Rain & shell suits for kids

Many parents wonder what sets a shell suit apart from other outer garments – and the advantage is clear: a shell suit protects against rain and wind without limiting your child's freedom of movement. Unlike a winter snowsuit, the shell suit has no insulating lining, making it a flexible choice that can be combined with any midlayer depending on the weather – from a thin top on mild days to a warm fleece piece when it turns colder.

Our shell suit for kids is made from Nylon Tactel, a nylon quality that's 2–3 times more durable than standard polyester and holds up to everything from playing in the preschool yard to adventures in the woods. The construction features a 15,000 mm water column and fully taped seams, keeping rain and wet play from getting through, while a breathability rating of 15,000 g/m²/24hrs vents away excess heat before your child has a chance to overheat.

The details are designed with both function and everyday use in mind: a waterproof zip at the front, a removable and adjustable hood, and silicone foot straps that keep the suit in place during play. Growth cuffs at the sleeves and leg ends can be extended by around 3 cm, giving the garment an extra season of use, while reflectors on the back and upper arms improve visibility in low light. The outer treatment is fluorocarbon-free (BIONIC Finish Eco®) and the material is bluesign®-certified.

A practical advantage of the shell suit is that it's just as easy to put on outdoors as it is to quickly take off indoors – perfect for outings that switch between playing in the snow and a stop at a café or shop.

How to wash a shell overall?

You should always follow the washing and care instructions provided on the label inside your specific shell overall. In general, our shell clothing for children is best washed with a liquid detergent. However, you should avoid using any fabric softener. Also, make sure to only spin at low speeds. When it comes to waterproof and windproof children's outerwear, the most common recommendation is to wash them at a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius.

Is a shell overall waterproof?

A shell overall or other shell clothing for children (such as shell jacket and pants for children) is the outermost layer of the layering principle. Therefore, shell jackets, shell pants, and shell overalls for children from us at Isbjörn of Sweden are always both windproof and waterproof.

What is a shell overall?

A shell overall is a lightweight overall that children and babies wear as the outermost layer during spring and autumn but can also be used in winter depending on the climate and the layers worn underneath. The shell overall provides protection against wind and moisture and is combined with one or more warming layers underneath.
