We always recommend choosing the size based on your child's height. For example, if your child is 104 cm tall, we recommend choosing size 104.

Our outerwear is generally designed with a roomy fit to allow space for layering and to ensure your child can move freely during play and outdoor adventures.

Keep in mind that every child is different. Two children of the same height may have different body shapes and grow at different rates. Height is therefore the best starting point, but you should also consider your child's individual fit and growth.

If you need further assistance choosing the right size, you're always welcome to contact our Customer Service team at support@isbjornofsweden.com.

Products, Features & Care Instructions

Both the Penguin and Monsune are waterproof and windproof shell jackets (also known as hardshell jackets). The main difference is the fit and sizing: Penguin is designed for children aged 2–8 years, while Monsune is designed for older children aged 9–16 years.

The Penguin is a waterproof and windproof shell jacket for children aged 2–8 years. Combined with suitable mid-layers, it can be worn all year round. The Helicopter is the insulated winter version of the Penguin, making it ideal for colder weather.

Similarly, the Monsune is a waterproof and windproof shell jacket for older children aged 9–16 years, while the Carving is its insulated winter version.

Both snowsuits are made from the same materials, have the same insulation and thermal performance, and share the same strong environmental profile.

The main differences are the design: Toddler features a removable faux fur trim on the hood, while Penguin does not. Penguin has reinforced fabric on the lower legs for extra durability, making it ideal for more active children, and is available in sizes 80–128 cm.

Toddler is designed for younger children who generally place less wear on their clothing. It does not feature reinforced leg panels and is available in sizes 74–98 cm.

All of our insulated winter garments contain the same amount of PrimaLoft® insulation and provide the same level of warmth. No matter which insulated jacket or snowsuit you choose, you can be confident it will keep your child warm on cold winter days.

A water column measures how waterproof a fabric is. It indicates how much water pressure the fabric can withstand before water penetrates the waterproof membrane.

All of our shell garments and insulated outerwear have a waterproof rating of 15,000 mm. This means the fabric can withstand pressure equivalent to a 15-metre column of water before moisture penetrates the waterproof membrane. You can read more about waterproof ratings on our website.

Breathability describes how effectively a fabric allows moisture vapour from the body to escape. When children are active or wearing several layers, moisture builds up inside the garment. Our waterproof membrane prevents rain from entering while allowing water vapour to escape.

All of our outerwear offers a breathability rating of 15,000 g/m²/24h, helping keep children dry and comfortable during outdoor activities.

With the right layering, our winter garments comfortably keep children warm down to approximately −20°C. We recommend following the layering principle by combining a moisture-wicking base layer, a warm mid-layer, our insulated outerwear, and warm gloves, boots and a hat.

When temperatures fall below −20°C, children should avoid spending extended periods outdoors. Also remember that strong winds significantly increase the perceived cold, especially if the child is sitting still in a sled or similar.

Wash all outerwear separately at 40°C using a liquid detergent suitable for technical garments. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Always close all zippers and hook-and-loop fasteners before washing. Use a programme with a thorough spin cycle.

To reactivate the durable water-repellent (DWR) finish, tumble dry or use a drying cabinet at 40°C for at least 10 minutes. If the garment is heavily soiled, we recommend soaking it in lukewarm water for one hour before washing.

To extend the life of both the garment and the DWR treatment, remove dirt and mud after use by brushing off dry dirt or rinsing off wet mud with water. Please note that the waterproof membrane remains fully waterproof even when the DWR treatment wears off - these are two different functions.

Wool garments should be washed at 30°C.

This depends on how often you wash them. We recommend cleaning off dirt whenever possible instead of washing after every use.

To check whether your garment needs reproofing, simply sprinkle some water onto the outer fabric. If the water beads up and rolls off, the DWR treatment is still working. If the water is absorbed into the outer fabric, it's time to reproof the garment.

We recommend using a spray-on water repellent, as it allows you to treat the areas exposed to the most wear, such as the hood, shoulders, cuffs, knees and seat.

We recommend using a liquid detergent specifically designed for technical outdoor clothing.

Yes. Most of our garments can be tumble dried on low heat (40°C). We recommend drying garments separately and making sure all zippers and hook-and-loop fasteners are closed to minimise wear.

Wool garments should not be tumble dried. Always follow the care instructions on the garment's care label, as washing instructions may vary between products.

Many of our garments feature Grow Cuffs at the sleeves and leg openings. A small seam on the inside holds the lining in place. By carefully unpicking this seam, the lining is released, extending both the lining and the outer fabric by approximately 2.5–3 cm.

You can watch a demonstration in our Grow Cuff video.

Yes. Replacement rubber foot straps are available for purchase on our website: Rubber Straps

Our garments are produced in Hebei Province, north-eastern China, a region with a long tradition of textile manufacturing. Many of the factory employees both live and work in the same local area, contributing to stable employment and long-term expertise.

China has extensive expertise in producing technical, seam-sealed outdoor garments. Manufacturing this type of clothing requires specialised skills that are difficult to find elsewhere. While simpler garments can be produced in Europe, advanced waterproof outerwear requires highly specialised production techniques.

Another important reason is that the technical materials we use are manufactured in Asia, primarily in Taiwan and China. Producing the garments close to the material suppliers reduces transport distances, lead times and shipping costs.

Technical seam-sealed outerwear is no longer manufactured in Sweden. Although some production of technical garments exists in parts of Europe, our manufacturing partners in China offer decades of experience, advanced production facilities and long-term, stable partnerships.

All of our factories operate under strict Code of Conduct agreements covering working conditions, environmental responsibility and employee welfare. We regularly work with our partners to ensure our high standards for quality, sustainability and ethical production are maintained.
